Big black umbrella…

She stood, silent and still, under the large black umbrella. The rain dripped around her feet, slowly forming small pools around her somewhat dry island. The sound of the rain drops on the dark fabric lulled her. She rocked slightly to the left, and to the right, following the soft fresh breeze…

How long had she been there? She couldn’t say… She didn’t wear a watch and she wasn’t on a schedule. She just needed to be. There. Then. Just be, and wait for the moment to be gone. Then she’d move on, to whatever life had in store for her.

Lost in her thoughts, she jumped a little when she heard the muffled sound. Someone was tapping on her umbrella, as if knocking at her door. She turned around, to face the tapper, and had to tip back the umbrella a bit to see the tall man’s face.

The rain pearled on his light hair, and rolled on his shoulders, and down his coat. His face seemed untouched, his warm bright smile probably drying every drop that dared touching his skin…

-Are you looking for someone?

His welcoming gaze made her feel home, and she suddenly had flashes of Janis Joplin, elevators, and taking chances….

-Yes, I’m looking for Leonard Cohen…

His face brightened. Catching the mischievious drift, he continued,

-Little Lady, you’re in luck…

He took the umbrella from her delicate hand, and offered his arm to hold. Walking her to the door of the house she had been standing in front of, he leaned to her ear, while looking for his keys.

-I am Leonard Cohen.

She knew he wasn’t.
